Designing buttons is one of my favorite things to do. Our latest button came about because Terri’s groovy teenage daughter, Laura is in tune with the 60’s (Beetles on her iPod and all). With that in mind, I thought of “Flour Child.” Adding the icing on the cake (pardon the pun) she also loves to bake. Combining those two ideas is how our Cupcake button was born. Did you know we currently have 49 buttons/pins posted on our site? 49! We think one of them could actually be a t-shirt design. It’s “da me” (pronounced da-may) which means “bad, no good” in Japanese. What do you think? Would you wear it? Let us know! idk staff

OMG. We are so excited about our new look for our website. We’ve been working on it between printing our new designs. Finally we are ready (well almost) to launch! We organized our homepage to be more user friendly so you can access everything easier including our popular button/pin page (we now have 40 plus designs!) and our idk blog site. Please leave us a comment – good or bad so we know someone (besides us) is reading it. We still have a little blimps to fix so be patient if you get a 404 (if you don’t know what 404 is, click on our 404 design). We’re just a months away from our next big event – Made in Hawaii Festival. So keep checking back with us and we’ll do our best to keep you updated. thanks for visiting.

We are getting ready for our big Spring Craft Fair at Hawaii United Okinawan Center this Saturday – April 25th. For those of you who know us, we’ll have our piles of clearance shirts. Come early and dive in! We’ll also bring our new designs and buttons. Since space is limited, our hats, upcycled bags, mini bags, and Harey Friends will be staying home. I know, we’ll miss them too. We’ll have more space next weekend at NBC so look for them there. idk staff

Mana Bu’s on King St. is still bustling with patrons. Karl and I joined the faithfuls standing in line before the small shop opened at 10:30. Their sign cheerfully reads “Open 10:30 until sold out.” With just a limited supply of assorted and tasty treats daily, the store has a reputation of being sold out by lunchtime. Lucky us, we got our faves on our first visit. Karl tried misoyaki and teriyaki style musubis, while I choose plain tuna and salmon versions because of my “no sesame seeds” diet restriction. I also got to try their kabucha pumpkin. Everything about Mana Bu’s is cute, from the little baskets customers carry to the invidividually wrapped portions. We liked it all. Karl said we should have bought 10! After eating his two musubis, he said “What’s for lunch?” I guess it was delicious appetizers.

Laura is making the most of her spring break – staying up late, seeing friends, online shopping, and what’s this – coming up with a new design? Her drawing of “Live, love, laugh” was so cute. Of course Uncle Karl couldn’t resist and added sarcasm. Okay, I thought it was funny too.

Sometimes the best ideas happen outside of the sketchbook. Karl draws on anything (napkins, cardboard boxes at craft fairs, and little bits of paper within arm’s reach. I call them scribblings of genius.
